First pregnancy is actually a mixed bag of emotions...you
do not know whether to be happy
coz a new life's inside you or to be sad
coz life's going to change forever!!!
Since it was a planned pregnancy it was a whole lot of joy with little bit of anxiety!!!Somehow i managed to reach the ninth month.... the month that every pregnant woman eagerly awaits....it started off fine but then as a novice I was always concerned about the one thing ie How will i come to know if my labour has begun? What does a labour pain feel like and how different is it from false labour??
Now that I have gone through all of it I can happily tell all you people who are interested about labour pains!!!
Firstly the FALSE PAINS...well these are the painless contraction basically more like a funny feeling or tightening and loosening of the tummy. There is usually no pain and if pain is there it is felt only in the tummy and does not go to your back and legs. The contractions are short ie less than 30secs and is not continuous. The pain decreases on movement.
Now coming to the true contractions..LABOUR PAINS....believe it or not IT IS VERY PAINFUL!!!It starts from your back going on to the front of your tummy and moving down to your legs.Well one thing that you must keep in mind is that it happens as your uterus starts dilating so depending upon the rate at which your uterus is dilating you will have your contraction. The pain is very severe almost the kind of pain one gets when one's been doing some back breaking work and then decides to lie down. The pain comes in intervals and as you near your delivery the pain is more frequent. The pain does not go on walking or movement ,it moves down your legs and feels like an electric current has passed through. It last for more than 30secs and the pains usually brings tears to your eyes!!!Some would like to call it a severe form of the pain that you get during your periods. As you dilate more and more you might start noticing some bloody discharge from your vagina. The discharge is usually minimal and is not like blood flowing out it just stains your panties or sanitary napkin mildly. You might also have nausea and vomiting as you progress into your labour.
RUSH TO THE HOSPITAL IF:
a. The true contractions occur every half hour.
b.You notice any blood stain or discharge from vagina.
c.Your water has burst ie you feel as if you are leaking fluid/urinating without any control.
d.The baby movements has decreased(monitor it every 3 times a day and you must feel at least 3-5 movements each time).
Well that's my experience of the Labour pains, after around 5hrs of excruciating pain finally I was fully dilated and then I pushed (like one would when one's constipated and trying to get stool out) my baby out.....
Well what can I say after that I wanted a baby girl and i had delivered a baby girl the doctor gave her to me, she was totally covered in blood,I held her and then she cried automatically....It was as if time had frozen and it was just me and her and she looked so beautiful ,pristine and i could just go on.... Little did i realise that i was crying and those were tears of joy and no matter what this will always be the best moment in my life.....The labour pains and the weariness were all forgotten and it all seemed so much worth the bundle of joy that i was holding in my hand.
The doctors took her for cleaning,I had a few stitches after the placenta was removed, then I was cleaned and shifted to a room where it was me and my baby...My new life had begun along with the new life i had given birth to.......
